Grilled Margherita Pizza

Grilled Margherita Pizza is a tasty take on the traditional Italian pizza. The smoky flavor from the grill makes the traditional Margherita toppings taste even better, making pizza lovers' mouths water.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cornmeal for dusting

Instructions:

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat around 450-500F or 230-260C

Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness

Sprinkle cornmeal on a pizza peel or a flat baking sheet to prevent sticking

Transfer the rolled-out dough to the pizza peel or baking sheet

In a small bowl, mix the minced garlic and olive oil

Brush this mixture evenly over the pizza dough as the base

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce

Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated grill grates, close the lid, and cook for 5-7 minutes or until the crust is crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbly

Be sure to check the bottom of the crust to avoid burning

Once the pizza is cooked to your liking, remove it from the grill using the pizza peel or a large spatula

Tear the fresh basil leaves and scatter them over the hot pizza

Drizzle a bit of extra-virgin olive oil over the top, season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve hot
